Title: Compact Remnant Masses and the Supernova Explosion Engine
Abstract:
In the past 2 decades, evidence supporting the convection-enhanced engine behind normal core-collapse supernovae has grown along with our understanding of this engine. Within this paradigm, we can begin to predict trends in a wide range of observables from the supernova explosion energies to the compact remnant distribution. In this talk, we will review the supernova engine and the current status of simulations modeling this engine. We will then discuss the predictions made by this engine for the compact remnant distribution, comparing these results to the current observational data.
